Clay, Sarah

Aunt Sarah said she remembers the Civil War and was owned by Mr. Bob Chandler of Sandis, Mississippi. Thinks

she was 10 or 12 years old. Worked in the house as house girl and cleaned the yards.

Remembers the Yankees and how they marched. They destroyed everything as they went. They sure were awful,

but glad to be free - any body likes freedom she says.

Just don't make much difference for she always been a white folks negro and they have always been good to her.

Don't care about the negroes for they don't do anything for their own.

Master and Mistress were very good, but not too good.

Aunt Sarah is so blind - can tell by voice only who she is talking to, unless they tell her - she usually knows the

voice.

Could hardly talk, as she has been very sick and only able to sit up a little, such an effort for her to tell anything.
